Austria is a clear contender for the queen of Europe when it comes to stylish family hotels. The whole country, and especially Tyrol, has an incredible amount of family resorts that far exceed the style you might imagine when thinking of kids’ accommodation. The vibe is nearly always nature-forward, and the decor matches with natural materials and organic cosiness. They are a treat for kids and adults alike.
And while there are many dedicated family hotels, you’ll also find plenty of family-friendly accommodations that welcome all sorts of travellers, but happen to have fantastic kids’ facilities. We tend to prefer the hotels in this category (read why here), but I do also love the pure family hotels too and have plenty on my bucket list.
So here’s a guide to all of the amazing Austria family hotels I’ve found so far. It includes both dedicated family hotels and family-friendly ones. We stayed at Feelfree Nature Resort and Wagner’s Aparthotel, and all the others are ones I came across in my research, and that are now firmly on my bucket list!

Best Austria family hotels in Tyrol
Wagner’s Aparthotel

We fell head over heels for Wagner’s Aparthotel, the sister property to Hotel Wagnerhof. A stay at the aparthotel is slightly cheaper than the main hotel, but you still get to use all the hotel’s upscale spa and restaurant facilities. The indoor-outdoor pool is a highlight.
Wagner’s Aparthotel also has the option to self-cater in their spacious multi-bed apartments, and there’s a playroom onsite. Both hotels are next to the gorgeous Lake Achensee and Pertisau ski area. Read my full review here.
Although very family-friendly, both Hotel Wagnerhof and Wagner’s Aparthotel are not dedicated family hotels and are welcoming to all guests.
Feelfree Nature Resort

Feelfree Nature Resort is another family-friendly hotel in Tyrol that’s appealing to everyone from couples to family travellers. In the small village of Oetz in the Ötztal Valley, it has a beautiful location, surrounded by mountains and next to a running river.
The focus is on adventure and relaxation in equal measure, with an on-site activity centre as well as a spa and sauna area. The bravest among you can even take an ice dip. There’s a kids’ pool with a slide and even a small soft play area. We loved the natural aesthetic and the food was also fantastic with good options for kids.
Alpenrose Familux Resort

The Familux brand spans Austria and Germany, and as the name suggests, specialises in stylish, luxury family hotels. They offer childcare and kids’ clubs for all ages, from a 7-day-old baby to a teenager. And the facilities are dazzling, including a climbing wall, cinema, soft play, Playstation/Wii/VR room, adventure playground, trampoline, ski school and pirate-themed waterpark.
There’s plenty for the grown-ups too with a spa area, fitness programme and fine dining. It’s in Lermoos in the Zugspitz Arena mountain area with direct access to the ski slopes.
Feuerstein

Feuerstein is just across the border in Italy’s South Tyrol, but I think it’s worth a mention as it’s so aesthetically pleasing and within spitting distance of Austria.
Facilities include a family spa, play barn, wood workshop, mud room, climbing wall, art studio, ninja warrior course and more! Plus you can get 70 hours of childcare included per week. There are adult-only areas for when you want some peace and quiet.
Alpenpark Resort

Alpenpark in Seefeld is one of the more reasonably priced of the full family hotels in Austria. It’s a 4-star hotel, but a little more dated than alternatives like Feuerstein or Hotel Wagnerhof.
Highlights include a family spa (including treatments for kids), a large family pool area, kids’ dining room, bowling alley, and a full childcare program. It’s in Seefeld, which has a great ski area for families, including a kids’ ski school.
Jagdhof Hotel

Jagdhof Hotel is a five-star retreat that balances luxury with family-friendly charm. The elegant, family-run Relais & Châteaux chalet has spacious suites, a dedicated kids’ club for ages 4-15, and year-round activities from skiing on the Stubai Glacier to summer hikes and biking trails.
A highlight is the huge spa with indoor and outdoor pools, a Tyrolean sauna village, and a variety of holistic treatments. This is another family-friendly hotel where couples would feel at home as much as families.
Galtenberg Hotel

Surrounded by the Kitzbühel Alps, the Galtenberg Hotel is a luxury, family-focused retreat designed for mountain adventures.
This resort has tons of kids’ activities, from a huge indoor and outdoor water world, a soft-play area, climbing wall, construction area, winter ice rink, and dedicated kids’ and teen clubs. You needn’t leave the hotel at all, although there’s plenty of outdoor adventure to be found on its doorstep too.
Kinderhotels in Austria

The Kinderhotel brand is perhaps the most famous among family hotels in Austria. It began back in the 1980s and is now a cooperative with around 30 hotels in Austria, Italy and Croatia. The 4 and 5-star hotels are all family-run and designed with kids at the forefront of everything.
While the hotels vary slightly in their offerings and style, you can expect a variety of kids’ facilities, from childcare and kids’ clubs to family activities and kids’ dining rooms. Some even have on-site swim and ski schools. And they all have an all-inclusive option where meals and non-alcoholic drinks can be included.
If you’re looking for childcare while on vacation, some of the hotels offer up to 40 hours of care per week.
Note that the Kinderhotels is a membership organisation rather than a fully unified brand, so the hotels vary in style and price.
