If I had a Superpower: Janice the Solo Traveler

Janice the Solo Traveler

Janice blogs at Solo Traveler, writing wonderfully honest stories about her journeys around the world. She’s even written a book on the subject called The Solo Traveler’s Handbook. I was lucky to meet her at some blogging conferences  in Europe, and of course jumped at the chance to ask her some superpower questions.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Teleportation – to get places fast.

If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive, who would they be?

Mordecai Richler, Leonard Cohen and Margaret Atwood. They’re all Canadian but that wasn’t planned.

When where you happiest?

[pullquote align=”right”]”All my energy left me. I’ve never felt anything like it”[/pullquote]I can think of the saddest point of my life, which was seconds after my husband died. All my energy left me. I’ve never felt anything like it.

My most recent happiest moment was when I was at a play, watching The Crucible. I was on the edge of my seat it was so good – the acting, the language, the political moment. It was completely fascinating.

What’s the love of your life?

My children.

Have you ever seen something you can’t explain?

Oh yeah, lots of things. Things have happened that I can’t explain too. Like in February 2009, when the words ‘I guess I’m travelling solo’ popped into my mouth. I don’t know how that happened but I’ve never looked back.

Read more of our superpower interviews here. We even had the chance to do one with the Lonely Planet founder, Tony Wheeler!
