2014: A Year in Review

Last updated on October 13, 2021

new year 2014

We started the year with an Om. Eight friends in the midst of a 17-course feast. A scene that set the tone for a year about coming home.

Victoria walking in Devon

January was spent in Devon, a land of rolling hills, craggy cliffs and clouds that move on high-speed. We ate a lot of pasties.

We also went to Finland, a country that became a favourite. It enchanted us with winter magic.

Berlin Office

Wanderlust lives in us, and in February we packed our bags in Devon and drove to Berlin. We’d call it home for six months.

We fell in love with the city – its bikes, its pace, its vibe. It wasn’t an easy place to leave.

Utrecht

But when we did, we stopped in Utrecht along the way, and fell in love at first sight.

With a free ticket burning her pocket, Victoria took a trip to Thailand, re-visiting an island from ten years before. Being back was harder than expected.

Singapore-36

She also stopped in Singapore and was dazzled by its sheen.

There was a trip to Malta amidst it all.

The long summer was punctuated by festivals. First came the fabulous Notte delle Luci in the heel of Italy’s boot.

Ljubljana-4

And in August we went to Slovenia – one of the highlights of our year.

A time filled with forests and excellent food.

Next came three months in Bristol and a time of intense work. Steve had a film to finish and leisure time hid its face. We ummed and ahhed about our next steps.

Cornwall-14

And in-between took a trip to Cornwall.

Victoria followed a path and began a teacher training course in yoga and mindfulness. A trip that took her back to Holland, this time to the north-east. The second part comes next year.

Peckham Rye Station, London

In November, we returned to London, to the very home we left three years before. The city took us by surprise, seen in a new light that we found becoming. We relished the feeling of home and decided we’d make it our base.

With the edit done and dusted, in December we were free. It was time to take a holiday, free from work and laptop screens. So off we went to India for a month of relaxation time. We journeyed through Kerala up to Goa and feasted on books and beautiful scenes. It was the medicine we craved.

And now we’re back in England, ready for a new year ahead. London will be our home base, but we have plans for journeys afar. This is the year Steve’s film we be released – the culmination of five years’ work.

It is also the year of us. Because in the year we’ve just looked over, on 5 July 2014, Steve got down on one knee and I shouted yes. We’ll get married this coming August. Oh my, I cannot wait!

We look forward to sharing our stories with you. Happy New Year everyone!
