No TV, just board games for entertainment, books aplenty for quiet by time. Log burner for cosying up. There is good WiFi so our teenager didn’t feel disconnected from the world. Local information was great. We explored the Helford passage and Falmouth. Can highly recommend Boo Koo’s, the Ferry Boat Inn and Slice Pizza.”

What the guests say: “The Lodge at Trematon Castle is an exceptional place to stay – full of character and comfort, perfect for privacy and romance, and ancient history on your doorstep! Don’t expect the boring “luxurious perfection” you may get in new-builds. The cosy old Lodge has plenty of space over three floors (bathroom on lower ground floor, kitchen/diner and sitting room in the middle, bedroom on upper floor) with a few stairs in between.

Fascinating decor appropriate to its age, a lovely claw-footed bath for two, a good-sized double-aspect kitchen-diner looking out onto grazing fields and castle walls, and a beautiful sitting room with log-burner. Joel gave us a very knowledgeable private tour of the castle grounds, and we were amazed to be able to wander the castle alone.”

This beautiful cottage was featured on Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, which celebrated its stylish conversion from a “loo with a view” into the lovely space it is today.

Situated on a beautiful bay in South Cornwall where seals and dolphins are regularly spotted and local fisherman bring in their daily catch, it has panoramic views of the harbour and sea. It’s less than five minutes’ walk from Charlestown, famous for the film set of Poldark and Alice In Wonderland

What the guests say: “When we arrived at Harbour Lights we were taken aback by the breathtaking views and the gorgeously decorated cottage. There were delicious scones and local tea which is just what we all needed after the long car journey.

And thoughtful extras for the children too. We had a few rainy evenings so it was so lovely listening to the waves and the rain from our bedrooms. A very cosy holiday home. Charlestown harbour has loads of character and everything you need within walking distance. Great, attentive hosts. 5 *!”

Trenoweth House, Crowan

This former Victorian vicarage sleeps up to 14 and is a perfect rural group retreat. Nestled amid beautiful Cornish farmland and set in over three acres of woodland, lawns and gardens, it includes a stunning natural swimming lake and streams. For extra large groups, there are three more cottages on the grounds that are also available for hire. The house has been restored but still has a traditional, rustic feel.

What the guests say: “A group of us spent the August bank holiday weekend here. It couldn’t have been more perfect – the house is beautiful and totally surpassed our expectations. There was heaps of space for the 14 of us to spread out, and all the rooms felt uncluttered and stylish.

We were brought fresh eggs and encouraged to feed the chickens and pick flowers and veg from the kitchen garden, which was such a nice touch. Lighting the wood burning stove in the hall and having dinner by candlelight was really special, as were the (chilly) morning swims in the pond. We’d love to come back.”

What the guests say: A gorgeous little hideaway right on the north Cornwall coastal path. Beautifully designed and styled, with all you need for a relaxing and cosy stay. It is lovely that there is a patio to sit in the sun in the morning. Its lovely that one of the bedrooms is self-contained. It was perfect for my mum who came on holiday with us.

Deirdre and Beth were great and looked after us really well. We were also given some recommendations about things to do and places to eat which were great. We had such a relaxing stay and I really didn’t want to leave. We will be back. It’s a great house and lovely village.”

Luxury Moonshine Shack, Marhamchurch

This bolthole was purpose built by the owners and is a faithful recreation of a shack from the Old West, but with a Cornish twist, of course. Step back to the days of pioneers and prohibition and hide away like outlaws in the self-contained bunkhouse. With a charmingly rustic interior, it makes for a memorable stay. There’s even a hot tub on the porch.

What the guests say: “After previously staying at Tinker on the farm this is another big WOW. A beautifully built and quirky Moonshine shack in the peace and quiet of North Cornwall. What’s not to love! The shack (this is underplaying it somewhat) is huge, much bigger than it looks in the pics.

Everything has been built and placed with the comfort of the occupants in mind. The finish of the whole place is high end and I’d happily live here. Rocking chairs, hammock, hot tub, huge fire, walk in shower, separate bath, Netflix and a long couch, all perfect for lazing the days away. We can’t wait to come again once the world gets back to some kind of normality after Covid. Thank you Chris and Jan for accommodating us.”

There are several other huts available in the site too, as well as lots of tipis. It’s a good option if looking for a Port Isaac Airbnb.

What the guests say: “Dreamy place! Couldn’t recommend a getaway here enough. The lake is an absolute touch, surrounded by the trees, super quiet. The Shepard’s hut is such an amazing little space, hot tub is great and stays hot for ages! Also if you were to camp it looks like the best pitches ever, little spaces between the trees. Truly amazing place to stay!”

The location is perfect for exploring North Cornwall’s coastline with its beautiful beaches and attractions.

What the guests say: “Bluebell is quite simply stunning. It looks incredible in the pictures but it’s even more breathtaking to see it in person. The perfect secluded retreat but also still close to so many places to visit. It was so relaxing to sit in the tub in the evening in total peace and quiet with just the sound of the stream.

Bluebell has been finished to such a high standard and was spotlessly clean. The welcome hamper was another lovely surprise and the little touches like fresh flowers throughout the cabin added to the personal feel.
